The NBA and the sports community was shocked when news about Los Angeles Clippers player Blake Griffin punching a team staff surfaced two weeks ago. The altercation, which resulted in the power forward injuring his hand, then gave rose to trade rumors.

Reportedly, the team is looking to get rid of the basketball player.

According to NBA trade rumors, the Clippers is in discussion with the Denver Nuggets about possibly trading Griffin before the trade deadline on Feb. 18.

While these talks are repeatedly being pitched, some sports experts believe that the Clippers will hold on to Griffin and will keep the star player until his contract expires, Cheat Sheet reported.

After this current season, Griffin will have one season left on his five-year contract with the Clippers. The deal costs $94.5 million. Per reports, if the Clippers keep Griffin in their roster, his trade value will allegedly skyrocket when he reaches his final season with the team.

According to NESN, in the last 20 games that Griffin missed due to injury, the Clippers posted a 16-4 record.

It simply showed that Griffin is one of the team's most valuable assets in terms of offense. The 26-year-old power forward currently averages 23.2 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He also averages 50.8 percent shooting on the floor in all the 30 games he had played this season.

Bad behavior aside, letting go of Griffin could spell more problems than answers to the Clippers.

Griffin has become one of the most sought after player in the league and he is not even in his prime yet. Should the Clippers really want to let him go, holding on to him for at least one more season allegedly means that they could potentially trade him for big bucks in the near future.

A lot of these NBA trade rumors will continue to surface as the deadline draws closer. Whether the Clippers really want to let Griffin go, no one knows for certain. However, it looks to be a jackpot deal for whoever signs the superstar.
