Ansel Elgort To Replace Harrison Ford In 'Star Wars' Han Solo Spin Off Movie?
More and more actors are rumored to be in the running to play Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars" Han Solo spin-off film for 2018.
According to Variety, studio execs have now narrowed a list down to a dozen actors, with Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Miles Teller, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Emory Cohen and Ansel Elgort among the names that have made the final cut.
The entertainment outlet states that producer Kathleen Kennedy and directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord will begin testing the young actors and will have a decision in the coming weeks, although recent rumors claim that Ansel Elgort has been leading the pack in terms of the studios' choice to play the young Han Solo.
Production for the spin-off doesn't start until January 2017, but the publication states that the reason for casting an actor this early on has more to do with a "Star Wars" film that's already in filming, rather than the Han Solo standalone film.
This could mean that the young Han Solo could be introduced in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" before appearing in his own film in 2018.
Disney seems to be leaning towards actors between the ages of 20 to 25, although the report said the studio also tested talents as young as 17 to as old as 34.
According to an official press release, the spin-off "focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley."
The "LEGO Movie" helmers will be teaming up with veteran writer Lawrence Kasdan, whose resume includes the screenplays for "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."
The "Star Wars" Han Solo movie is scheduled to be released on May 25, 2018.
Do you think Ansel Elgort should play the young Han Solo in the upcoming "Star Wars" spin-off?
