By all indications, 2016 is shaping up to be the year of the "Pokemon" with the upcoming roll out of the Nintendo 3DS game "Detective Pikachu."

Scheduled to hit gaming consoles on Feb. 3 as a digital download, the release of "Detective Pikachu" coincides with the 20th anniversary of the highly-popular "Pokemon" franchise, reported the Verge.

Based on the recently released trailer of "Detective Pikachu," everyone's favorite electric-powered rat will not be dueling with other pocket monsters but will instead be solving crimes a la "Sherlock Homes."

What's more interesting about the game is that the crime-solving Pikachu will not be confined to his iconic "pika" line but will be talking like a real-life detective.

The concept of "Detective Pikachu," a 3DS-playable game, was hatched several years ago and now comes into fruition, as The "Pokemon" Company and Nintendo celebrate two decades of bringing fun and excitement to fans across the globe.

According to Forbes, the game's full title is the "Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo."

It is among the soon-to-be released "Poke-related" titles which includes the arcade-style fighting game "Pokken Tournament" for the Wii U and "Pokemon Go" for mobile phones.

In the meantime, a mash up video featuring Hollywood actor Danny DeVito overlaying Nintendo 3DS game "Detective Pikachu" is creating a stir among fans in the gaming community, as revealed by Cinema Blend

The amusing video produced by YouTube user Tealhollow1 is a mix of clips taken from DeVito's various movies.

The fan-made video came in the heels of a petition made by "Pokemon" fans on Change.org asking the game's developers to use the voice of DeVito in "Detective Pikachu."

In the game's trailer, Pikachu is voiced by "an older gentleman with a steely resolve," which is in contrast to the "Pokemon" character's original high-pitched voice.

"Detective Pikachu," which will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in Japan, teams up the crime-busting Pikachu with a young boy named Tim, as they solve mysteries together using unusual investigative methods.
