Marvel’s ‘Luke Cage’ Not A Spinoff of ‘Jessica Jones'; Is Claire Temple The Love Interest?
"Luke Cage" himself, Mike Colter revealed that though his character is set in the Netflix Defender series, it won't be a sequel from "Jessica Jones."
In an interview with IGN , the actor explained that from the start there is already an intended show for "Luke Cage," and fans shouldn't be surprised about the show not being a sequel to "Jessica Jones."
"We pride ourselves in all being unique shows, and 'Luke Cage' is definitely not a sequel to 'Jessica Jones' or a spinoff, because it was already originally was supposed to be a show, and it so happens that you can't tell her story without telling 'Luke Cage's' story," Colter said.
After the actor's revelation that he is almost done wrapping up "Luke Cage: Season 1," rumor has it that Claire Temple's character in the upcoming TV series would be larger than her previous roles in "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones".
Screen Crush reported that Claire Temple, Rosario Dawson's character in Netflix's Defender series, will be the love interest of Luke Cage.
During the Television Critics Association's press conference Colter stressed, "She knows of me, obviously, from a personal standpoint, but it'll be interesting to see because she will deal with me in a different way than she dealt with Matt Murdock."
"Because she plays a nurse that basically seems to be in the right place at the right time, and she's very good at helping out superheroes who are in need, and I think you will see some of that in 'Luke Cage.' Ultimately I think she's going to be a very good companion for Luke. I think she's someone that Luke needs in his life at this time," he added.
Whether "Luke Cage" will or will not be a sequel of "Jessica Jones," fans still can't wait for the release of the action packed Netflix Defender TV series "Luke Cage" season 1 and "Jessica Jones" season 2.
