The Xiaomi Mi5 is not out yet, but new word on the streets is that it will be available in as many as four variants when it is finally released in late February 2016.

According to a GSM Arena report, the cheapest of these variants will cost around $375 while the other three could set you set you back $395, $425 and $470 respectively.

While the company is yet to come up with an official response to these rumors, it is certainly eyeing to establish itself as a key player in the rapidly expanding mid to high-end smartphone market.

And that brings us to the most important question many of you are probably asking, "Should I opt for an already established brand or a relatively new kid in the block who is throwing everything in its power to expand its territory?"

Judging by the general vibe in the tech community, it is abundantly clear that the Xiaomi Mi5 is likely to target the good-old Samsung Galaxy S6.

So, quite obviously anybody who's planning to buy a new smartphone in the coming weeks could be eventually forced to pick their own favorite in this Xiaomi Mi5 Vs Samsung Galaxy S6 standoff.

To begin with, almost everybody is already familiar with Samsung, and as a rule of thumb, probably see the Galaxy S6 as the more reliable choice to go with. However, Xiaomi did not make it as one of the fastest growing mobile manufacturers without a reason either - so there's that too.

In terms of specs, both devices more or less stand in the same category. While the Mi5 will be powered by Android 6 Marshmallow with a custom UI, the newer variants of the Samsung Galaxy S6 brings you the older Android 5.1, albeit with its own TouchWiz UI.

The form factors are also more or less the same, although the S6 could be slightly bulkier between the two.

At 5.2-inch, the display size of the Mi5 is slightly higher than the S6's 5-inch, but both have the same resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixel. In terms of pixel density, the S6's 574ppi is marginally higher than the Mi5's 554ppi. Both displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

Both devices have 16-megapixel primary cameras, although spectators might have to wait a bit longer to know the qualitative gap between the image and camcorder quality. The Mi5 has an 8MP front camera whereas the one in S6 is only 5MP.

In terms of processing power, the Samsung Galaxy S6 seems to have a distinct advantage owing to its Octa-core, 2100 MHz, ARM Cortex-A57 and ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit processors. Compared to that, Mi5 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. But when it comes to battery life, the 3600mAh with Quick Charge v3.0 technology in Xiamoi Mi5 is definitely superior to the S6's 2,500mAh battery.

Other notable features in the Xiaomi Mi5 include LED light notification, fingerprint sensor, 4G-LTE network, USB Type-C interface, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1 and 3D Touch display sensor.

Considering all those factors, and the prices of these devices, it is only fair to assume that the battle currently seems to be evenly poised. Perhaps, the Mi5 has a slight edge over the Samsung Galaxy S6 in terms of specs if certain aspects such as brand value and after-sale services are discounted.
