'Batman V Superman' News: Director Zack Snyder Promises 'Satisfying' Philosophical Battle
Zack Snyder's "Batman V Superman" has been all the buzz in comic book movie news. Many are anticipating to see the Dark Knight's arrival, who is belived to come out of retirement to seek accountability from Superman after he leveled Metropolis during his fight with General Zod.
The Battle of Metropolis, which left many dead in the 2013 film, has been the subject of criticism for being too over-the-top. However, Snyder suggests that controversial fight scene was necessary for him to introduce certain political and social themes, specficially superhero accountability.
"I stand by it, because for me, I've always said when I was working on 'Watchmen' - and maybe it's sort of left over from a Watchmenphilosophical sort of thing - that there should be consequences to superheroes' interaction with the Earth," Snyder said in a statement published by Screen Rant. "And that was kind of the way that we approached 'Man of Steel.' I wanted a big consequence to Superman's arrival on earth. Certainly, 'Batman V Superman' sort of cashes in all its chips on the 'why' of that destruction."
As the title and trailers point out, the movie will be a showdown between two of DC's most famous heroes. However, the latest news from Snyder suggests that it will also be a battle of ideologies.
"The discovery of the story is that Batman fights Superman. Now move your superhero chess pieces so that can happen. And it can happen in a credible and interesting way," Snyder explained. "It's just incredibly satisying and fun to ding into these two mythological characters and find a through line that allows them to come into conflict in a way that not only is philosophically satisfying, but also physically real."
"Batman V Superman" stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot Jason Momoa, Jessie Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Ezra Miller, Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Warner Bros/DC has given the movie an official March 25, 2016 release.
