'Confident' Singer Demi Lovato Forced By Disney To Fix A Physical Imperfection?
Demi Lovato may be confident in many ways but that wasn't always the case.
The world watched the "Cool for the Summer" singer re-invent herself many times - from being a Disney star to wrestling with bipolar disease and eating disorders, until this point in time when the singer-actress could honestly say that she is at her best state yet.
In an interview with Allure Magazine, Demi Lovato backtracked a few years, long before her hit single, "Confident," which speaks about being comfortable with your own body - no matter its imperfections.
According to the Lovato, when signed on with Disney to do "Camp Rock," the company asked her to change a physical flaw - a gap between her teeth.
"I signed with Disney Channel when I got 'Camp Rock,' and I had a gap between my two front teeth," Demi Lovato said. "They were like, 'Would you be willing to fix it?'; I wish today that I hadn't, because my gap was really cute."
Fast forward to today, when instead of being a girl with a negative body image and emotional issues, Demi Lovato has become a strong, confident advocate of body positivity and anti-bullying.
"I realized I could help people" the singer told Allure. "It creates a conversation -- there's an opening for children themselves to actually come forward and say, 'This is what I'm dealing with.' Or 'I have a problem. I need help.'"
In 2011, Demi Lovato slammed Disney Channel for making jokes about eating disorders in an episode of "Shake"It Up" and "So Random!"
According to Huffington Post, a character in one of the episodes quipped: 'I could just eat you up. Well, if I ate."
Demi Lovato quickly went on a Twitter rant, criticizing her former employer.
"I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about," Lovato wrote in December that year.
"And is it just me or are the actress' (on Disney Channel) getting THINNER AND THINNER.... I miss the days of RAVEN and LIZZIE MCGUIRE," the singer added, referencing actresses Hilary Duff and Raven Simone.
"Dear Disney Channel, EATING DISORDERS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT," Lovato said.

Disney later on responded to Demi Lovato's tweets and promised to pull the episodes and reevaluate them.
In 2010, Demi Lovato checked into a rehab facility for multiple reasons including self-harm, eating disorders, various addictions and bipolar disease.
