Eagles Member Glenn Frey Dies At 67 Due To A Worsening Health Condition

The founding member of the rock band "Eagles" died on Monday in New York City. Glenn Frey passed away at 67 years old because of several ongoing health disorders, New York Daily News reported Monday.

According to the report, the Eagles' official website announced on Monday that Frey died courageously in New York City after he battled with "Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis, and Pneumonia." The band also said that he suffered from recurrent intestinal disorders, which required him to undergo a major surgery and a lengthy recovery period.

In a statement, the post said that the Frey family was very much thankful to everyone who fought with him as well as those who prayed for his fast recovery.

"Words can neither describe our sorrow nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide," the band said.

Frey was the band's lead guitarist and pianist. He co-wrote the worldwide hit "Desperado" and "Hotel California" with Don Henley, his fellow band co-founder.

Henley reminisced how Frey became the "spark plug" of the band. He said that Frey was generous, funny and deeply talented and that he "had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music."

Following the sad announcement, several artists expressed their sympathy through written messages on social networking sites, Times reported.

Singer-songwriter Carole King extended her condolences to Frey's family. Actor Miles Teller said that Frey was one of the greatest musicians, contributors, collaborators and voices to the rock and roll music. Other artists that sent expressed their condolences included Hillary Scott, Nick Martin, Ryan Adams, Christina Perri, Sheryl Crow and One Republic.

Frey was born in Detroit in 1948. He was married to Cindy Frey and was blessed with three children named Otis, Deacon and Taylor.

Don Henley said, "I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet."
