NBA Trade Rumors: Mike Conley Jr To New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony, Kristap Porzingis?
Carmelo Anthony and rookie Kristap Porzingis are New York Knicks' main guys right now. If a reliable point guard enters, there is no doubt that the team will get better. According to recent NBA trade rumors, the Knicks are close to finding the missing piece of the puzzle.
Reportedly, the Derek Fisher-coached squad is in talks to get a legit point guard in Mike Conley Jr. of Memhpis Grizzlies.
"The Knicks didn't get their top men in free agency last summer, but now they have something to sell - potentially a .500 record and two marquee pieces in Carmelo Anthony and rookie sensation Kristaps Porzingis. The duo surely could use a point guard," New York Post wrote.
"What do you think, Mike Conley? Conley, who never has made an All-Star team and is not in the top 10 in voting among Western Conference guards, still remains the top point guard on the free-agent market this summer."
It added about the trade rumors, "Sources have indicated the Knicks and Nets will be all over Conley, as the New York squads are two of the few NBA teams in the market for a top-notch starting point guard."
Admittedly, the NBA trade rumors only suggest Conley as top point guard in free agency but not in the whole league. The player, who was drafted fourth overall in 2007 NBA draft, has been with Memphis since his professional career started. In all but one season, he averaged in double figures.
However, this current season is exactly the opposite. Just recently, he suffered from an Achilles injury that made him miss five games and there is no time table for his return yet.
"Conley met with a doctor Thursday night, but nothing has been reported indicating any sort of timetable for a return," CBS Sports reported. "He was seen walking without a boot on his foot Friday, which seems to indicate his situation is improving."
"He'll remain day-to-day moving forward, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll be ready to return come Saturday's game against the Knicks."
