Volvo XC90 2016 Wins Autoguide's 'North American Truck Of The Year,' Details Released!

The Volvo XC90 2016 has won the North American Truck of the year 2016. It is one of the most prestigious awards given annually by a group of 53 Independent Automotive Journalists from the U.S and Canada.

Apart from the model, this year's finalists for the award were Honda Pilot and Nissan Titan XD. However, The XC90 won by a landslide with 310 points. The first and second runner ups were Honda Pilot and Nissan Titan XD with 111 and 109 points, respectively.

The company used this opportunity to emphasize the fact that the redesigned the model was the company's initial of a new product line.

The president and CEO of Volvo Car USA, Lex Kerssemakers said that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

"There is a lot more to come," cited Bankrate "By 2019, Volvo will have a totally renewed product portfolio. By then, the all-new XC90 will be the oldest car in the showroom."

In the 23-year old history of the prestigious award, domestic automakers have won truck of the year competitions 15 times and others have won 8 times. Among which, Japanese and European brands have won 4 times each. Now, it's the second time that Volvo has bagged the award for its XC90 and it happened this 2016 (the first time being 2003 when the car was first produced).

In this regard, the Managing Editor of Autoguide.com, Jodi Lai released a congratulatory statement.

"Congratulations to the team at Volvo," he said, according to Benzinga. "The Volvo XC90 is really impressive, and one of the best things about it is that it's the unconventional pick for someone shopping this segment."

"This car looks great, it's practical, it drives amazingly, it has one of the best engines and interiors in the industry, and it has a ton of safety features and lot of great technology," he added. "The Volvo XC90 stands out because it is so innovative and so radically different from any other SUV on the market."

The Volvo XC90 2016 is priced at $43,900 onwards.
