Marvel VP Praises Punisher In 'Daredevil' Season 2; Calls Bernthal's Portrayal 'Extraordinary'
Marvel Television executive vice president Jeph Loeb recently praised Jon Bernthal for his role as The Punisher in "Daredevil" season 2.
Loeb mentioned that the Bernthal's Punisher will be one of the most exciting parts to look forward to.
"If you loved the first season, then you're going to love the second," Loeb said in a statement published by Comic Book. "Jon Bernthal has succeeded in his quest. His Punisher is extraordinarily memorable in every way."
Aside from Bernthal's character, Loeb pointed out that Elektra's debut will also be just as exciting.
"You will fall in love with Elodie Yung as Elektra, and she will break your heart because that's what Elektra does to people," he said. "When you float Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch into that group, and Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Hensen as Karen and Foggy, it just an extraordinary cast. I just think people are going to be delighted by the story the writers came up with for this season."
Loeb also touched on Matt's motivations in the follow-up season.
"For Matt, who believes in the law, the question of whether or not he's a vigilante, and whether or not that makes him the same as these people, is something that will drive both the story and the character," Loeb explained. "And in his performance, Charlie Cox will really raise some hard questions: when you decide to put on a mask and go out and seek justice, and you are not somebody that the law sees as someone who should be doing that job, how do you get away with that?"
Many have been clamoring to see how Daredevil would fare against the Punisher and his take-no-prisoners vigilante style of justice. Fans will just have to wait and see when "Daredevil" season 2 returns to Netflix on March 18.
