'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: 'Everyone Has Evolved' Upon Series' Return
Upon "Scandal" season 5's return, recent spoilers revealed that the series may feature characters who are different from where fans left them last year.
The ABC TV series will return this year and according to "Scandal" season 5 spoilers from Tony Goldwyn, who plays Pres. Fitz Grant, the main characters have somehow "evolved" from what they were in the last episode which aired on Nov. 19 last year.
"Everybody has evolved into the next phase of their lives," Goldwyn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "Fitz is unfortunately alone without Mellie [Bellamy Young], without Olivia, and sort of without Cyrus [Jeff Perry] in the sense that the trust between Cyrus and Fitz is broken."
He added, "Cyrus is still working for him, but it's a troubled situation, so Abby [Darby Stanchfield] is taking up that slack in terms of who he leans on, but Fitz is very much alone - the guy alone on the top of the hill."
The actor also confirmed there will be a six-month time jump when "Scandal" season 5 returns. Although a long time has passed, Fitz insists one thing has not changed - his love for Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), who in the last episode decided to move out of the White House and get an abortion.
"Second to the death of his son, that's the worst thing that could ever happen to Fitz - to find out that Olivia was pregnant with his baby, had an abortion and did not tell him," he said. "That said, he got beyond the fact that her father was responsible for murdering his son."
"There's no logic to Fitz's love for Olivia, so I think he could get past it. I think he would have to because he's in love with her. It's going to be horrible if he finds out."
The return episode of "Scandal" season 5 is titled "It's Hard Out There for A General" and will air on Feb. 11.
