George R.R. Martin Issues Apology Over 'Winds Of Winter' Release Date Delay
George R.R. Martin, the famous novelist who wrote the bestselling "The Song Of Ice And Fire," which HBO adapted into a series titled "Game of Thrones," issued an apology over the the release date delay of the series' sixth book, "The Winds of Winter."
Many have been waiting to receive updates on the sixth book's progress as the new year entered. Instead, Martin delivered bad news for fans of the franchise on Jan. 2, announcing the "book's not done."
"THE WINDS OF WINTER is not finished," the #1 New York Times Bestselling author wrote on his blog, revealing that he missed the deadline of "Winds of Winter" release date.
According to Slash Film, the book was scheduled to be finished by October of last year in order to be published this year. Even worse, Martin himself has no idea when the "Winds of Winter" release date will be.
"I can't tell you when it will be done, or when it will be published," he said. "Best guess, based on our previous conversations, is that Bantam (and presumably my British publisher as well) can have the hardcover out within three months of delivery, if their schedules permit. But when delivery will be, I can't say. I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over."
Readers were undoubtedly devastated upon hearing news about the delay, but it seems that Martin is just as upset himself.
"I won't make excuses. There are no excuses. No one else is to blame. Not my editors and publishers, not HBO ... It's on me. I tried, and I am still trying."
Surprisingly, followers of "GoT" received the news well and have shown Martin their full support.
"The outpouring of support in response to my post on 'The Winds of Winter' has been astonishing," Martin wrote on his Livejournal.
Though fans have reacted positively to Martin's update, the "Winds of Winter" release date still hangs in the air.
