SAN FRANCISCO, CA - MAY 15: Vic Gundotra, Google senior vice president of engineering, announces 'hangouts' for Google+ as he speaks during the opening keynote at the Google I/O developers conference at the Moscone Center on May 15, 2013 in San Francisco,

With the surge of its competitors in the messaging service industry these days, Google is currently planning to make some upgrades to its Hangouts app as well as to its Messenger app in order to keep up with competition.

In a Wall Street Journal news report, it was revealed that the Alphabet Inc. unit is reportedly planning "to integrate chatbots, software programs that answer questions inside a messaging app" especially that messaging services are considered to be one of the top mobile apps being used worldwide.

In fact, it has been estimated that its users already reached more than two billion, based on the data released by Portio Research Ltd.

Amid this popularity, it was noted though that the Google Hangouts app and Messenger "trail far behind Facebook's WhatsApp and Messenger and Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s WeChat, the most popular messaging app in China."

"Some services are adding other capabilities-WeChat, for instance, lets users shop, pay bills and book appointments," the report added.

With the rumored upgrades, users of Google Hangouts app and Messenger will already have the capacity "to text friends or a chatbot, which will scour the Web and other sources for information to answer a question."

However, official date of its release is still uncertain.

In the meantime, TNH Online reported that Apple gadget users have every reason to be happy as it was announced that screen sharing is now possible through iMessage and Google Hangouts.

By having the new feature, any iPad, iPhone or Mac desktop owner can already share the look of his or her iOS home screen provided that he or she has "setup either of Google Hangouts or Apple's iMessage for this to be possible."

Accordingly, "The app you go for will depend on your specific preferences."
