Floyd Mayweather Jr Slams Double Standard On Conor McGregor's Trash Talk; Says Racism Is Alive
Floyd Mayweather Jr - Conor McGregor comparisons are all around the internet. The latter was compared to retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. after his win against Jose Aldo a couple of months ago.
Aside from their winning record, the two are compared for the way they approach their battles. Both trash talk their opponents in the press and back their bravado on the octagon/ring.
Pretty Boy sees a problem about the whole thing, though. People are missing something about all those Floyd Mayweather Jr - Conor McGregor comparisons. If the Irish fighter is regarded as the poster boy of professional mixed martial arts, Floyd being talkative is not deemed positive by many. Thus, the boxer believes that racism still exists in the sport.
"I don't really know the McGregor guy, never seen him fight...they say he talk a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I'm cocky and arrogant," he said in interview with Fight Hype adding that it is "So biased!"
"Like I said before, all I'm saying is this, I ain't racist at all, but I'm telling you racism still exists."
The undefeated American boxer, who scored two big wins last year against Manny Pacquiao and Andre Berto before retiring, also used the situation of other boxers as an example.
"You gotta really look at things like this, when Bernard Hopkins was a middleweight trying to fight Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, and Felix Trinidad, they [the media] said he was calling out smaller guys. When the guy Triple G does it, they don't say shit. Once again, I'm not racist; I'm just saying racism still exists."
"Do I think that they're trying to get Andre Ward beat? Absolutely! Andre Ward, if you're reading this article, if I was you, I wouldn't move up to 175 pounds to fight the guy, Kovalo [Sergey Kovalev], if that's his name, because I really don't know his name. I know he's a light heavyweight. Andre Ward is a 168-pounder and I think he should continue to dominate at 168."
He added, "This is what I think should happen. You know, everybody keeps talking Triple G, so I just started taking notice probably last year. If this guy Triple G is so tough and so bad, you know, from what they say, then let him go up and fight Andre Ward."
Conor McGregor beat Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds in their last fight on November last year. The match was the biggest earner in UFC history.
After the win, the Irish MMA fighter said he targets to break the record set by Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
Is the claim of Floyd Mayweather Jr. when it comes to racism true? Do people really turn a blind eye on Conor McGregor's tendency to trash talk? Those questions are still up in the air without solid proof, however.
