Steam servers are down due to a hacking attack, according to Tech Worm.

A previous report from a tech website stated that a group of hackers called SkidNP had vowed that they would bring down the Steam servers and other video game servers as well during Christmas day. There are no details as to why the group is doing this and it seems they are doing it just on a whim.

On Christmas Eve, it was reported that the Steam servers are currently offline due to a hacking attack from a group of hackers. The group is taking the responsibility for this is SkidNP and it seems they have fulfilled their promise. The servers are offline worldwide.

Some Steam community members took to Twitter to express their frustration on the subject, according to International Business Times. TaP posted a screenshot of how Steam was compromised on Twitter.

As of Friday, Steam did not respond immediately to user complaints, but Sony quickly took on to Twitter to begin reporting of the problems on Christmas Eve.

On the PlayStation status website, it showed all of its features functioning last Friday, but a lot of users were still complaining. Some websites have evidence that there are more than 1,000 reports of PlayStation problems over the last 24 hours.

While Steam and PlayStation servers were down, it also seemed that the Xbox servers went down as well. Some Xbox users were complaining that they could not log in to the servers because they were offline.

Today, it was updated that the Steam servers that have been down for a few hours has come back online, according to Gamespot. Valve has also given a statement in regard to the issue of the Steam server attacks.

"Steam is back up and running without any known issues," said a Valve spokesperson in an email. "As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour."
