The Miss Universe pageant's recent controversial issue has taken social media and the world into storm and former owner, Donald Trump, has made a comment to what could have resolved it.

The American presidential candidate guested on Monday in NBC's "Today" show and was asked by Matt Lauer of his insights with regard to the misinformation made during the pageant. He answered, "I think I'd make 'em a co-winner," reported by CNN Money.

"I would recommend that they go have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner," he added.

On Dec. 20, the pageant's host made a mistake in announcing the wrong country as the winner of Miss Universe. Steve Harvey immediately corrected his action and apologized for both the candidates and their fans. Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez was initially crowned however, two minutes later it was announced that the real title holder was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Donald Trump also called in Matt Lauer and said,  "Steve Harvey is a great guy,"  according to Us Weekly.

"I like the way he got out and did it," he continued. "It certainly was a terrible error. Terrible for the young woman from Colombia."

"Things happen. It's live television, and the new owners are tremendous people. I owned it for 15 years, and I sold it," he added.

He also posted his reaction via his Twitter account with regard to the incident.

Donald Trump first sold the organization in June and bought the Miss Universe, Miss Teen USA and Miss USA back from NBCUniversal after two months. The deal was done after his alleged controversial remarks made with regard to Mexican immigrants, according to USA Today.

After which, he sold the pageant rights to WME/IMG along with Fox, that gained the right to air the event to local television.

"Very sad what happened last night at the Miss Universe Pageant," Donal Trump tweeted. "I sold it 6 months ago for a record price. This would never have happened!"
