K-Pop Group Oh My Girl Detained At Los Angeles International Airport After Reportedly Being Mistaken For Sex Workers
A South Korean all-girl group has been detained at Los Angeles International Airport for more than ten hours after they were reportedly mistakenly thought to be sex workers by TSA staff.
WM Entertainment said in a dispatch Friday that Oh My Girl and the staff were held after the immigration authorities checked the costumes and props they have brought along with them for an album cover shoot.
"They seem to have mistaken them as sex workers," a spokesperson from the agency says, as noted by BBC Friday.
A representative from WM Entertainment said "the members of Oh My Girl and their staff successfully passed through immigration, but it appears that their filming equipment and outfits for the album jacket shoot have become a problem."
"Apparently there has been a misunderstanding during the customs inspection. We are trying to find out what exactly has happened," the representative adds, as reported by Soompi Thursday.
Reports have revealed that the immigration authorities reportedly confiscated their cellular phones. After being held for 15 hours, the staff decided to go back to South Korea.
Aside from the photo shoot for their upcoming album, Oh My Girl is also scheduled to attend the Unforgettable Gala of 2015 to promote their group.
The event, which will take place on Friday, is a get-together of Asian-American entertainers and producers. Hence, WM Entertainment said the South Korean group does not need the entertainer's visa in order to attend such event, which is not a solo concert.
The agency revealed they have appointed an American attorney to probe whether the detention was legal or not.
The eight-member K-pop group made their debut on April 20 and released their first single entitled "Cupid" under self-titled album. Oh My Girl first performed their single on a South Korean music television program, "The Show".
