"Psychonauts 2" crowdfunding campaign has been announced by Double Fine, according to Eurogamer.net.

Double Fine debut the first "Pyschonauts" game in 2005. The game was about dreams that Raz, the psychic commander of the "Psychonauts," jumps in into the subconscious of others to battle enemies from inside. It has garnered a lot of awards from different game websites, but it had problems selling well in the gaming market. This situation had created a problem for creating a sequel for the game.

Last 2012, MInecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson offered the game developers funds to make a sequel. This did not happen because Persson offered the funding just before the day Double Fine was going to launch the Kickstarter campaign for "Broken Age." This was supposed to be an experiment to fund a small flash game but it garnered a lot of funds. This unexpected outcome led the game developers to consume their time with the said game development for three years.

Now that "Broken Age" has been launched, it was now time to focus on the sequel of "Psychonauts," according to sources. "Psychonauts 2" will now use Fig as the crowdfunding campaign for the game development.

In an interview, Gamespot asked Double Fine founder and director of the game, Tim Schafer, for the reason why they chose Fig and not Kickstarter.

"What Fig allows you to do is let people invest in the game and they can back it like they could before, but they can also invest money in it where they can actually share in the royalties of the game," answered Schafer. "If the game is a big, big hit, they can participate in that along with the developer."

"Psychonauts 2" is currently in pre-production, according to Polygon. The game developers' plan is to design and build a singular experience that matches with the scope of the original game.
