Nexon introduces groundbreaking system linking live football performance to in-game ratings, plus Rafael Benítez coaching seminar

Nexon Korea has announced two new player classes for EA Sports FC Online that will dynamically adjust based on real-world results from the upcoming 2025 Icon Match at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Live Performance Affects Virtual Stats

The "Show and Prove" system will boost player attributes based on actual performances during September 13 event challenges. Winners of 1-on-1 duels, touch challenges, and power shot competitions will receive upgrades to speed, acceleration, ball control, and shooting power. The September 14 main match result will trigger +1 overall rating increases for the winning team's players.

The "Fan Boost" feature launches with Eden Hazard and Rio Ferdinand, offering +2 overall ratings based on community engagement metrics, activated August 29.

New Gameplay Features

Four new player traits debut with the update:

  • Two Hearts: Reduces stamina-based performance decline
  • Fighter: Slows opponent sprint speed during physical duels
  • Acrobatic Finisher and GK Quick Reaction: Specialized finishing and goalkeeping abilities

The enhancement system now allows two traits per player at +5 and +8 levels, with six intensive training slots unlocked at +11.

Rafael Benítez Coaching Education Event

Nexon will host a coaching education session on September 15 at 2 PM in Nexon's Pangyo headquarters, featuring Rafael Benítez as the main speaker. The event, organized with Korea Football Association support, targets registered coaches nationwide.

Benítez, currently without a club after leaving Celta Vigo in March 2024, brings experience from Liverpool's 2005 Champions League victory and Valencia's consecutive La Liga titles. The session focuses on youth development and coaching advancement.

Expanded Broadcasting Access

Domestic viewers can watch through FC Mobile during both event days, while global audiences access the main match via official YouTube channels in Vietnam and Thailand, operated by Garena.

Building on 2024 Success

The previous Icon Match drew 64,000 stadium attendees and nearly 190,000 online viewers, with Shield United defeating FC Spear 4-1.

The 2025 edition features legendary attackers (Park Ji-sung, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, Didier Drogba) versus defensive icons (Rio Ferdinand, Iker Casillas, Carles Puyol, Nemanja Vidić) on September 13-14.

This integration of live sports performance with video game mechanics represents a new approach to sports gaming, allowing real-world events to directly influence virtual player capabilities.
