‘Dragon’s Lair’ Kickstarter Campaign Cancelled; Group Moves To Indiegogo For Support!
The "Dragon's Lair" Kickstarter campaign has been cancelled by its creators, according to Engadget.
The "Dragon's Lair" movie is based from the 1983 arcade game with the same name. Don Bluth and Gary Goldman created the animations for the original game and also worked with other cartoon titles like "An American Tail" and "The Land Before Time." The group estimates that there are actually "millions" of Dragon's Lair fans out there since 30 years of the original game's first release on arcades.
The "Dragon Lair" Kicstarter campaign was first launched way back in October with a funding goal of $550,000. That alone would fund a 10-minute teaser that Bluth and Goldman would make and then pitch it to Hollywood studios to make a full-length movie. The duo will also meet with other private investors or investment banks to get some funding for their full-length movie if it ever kicks off.
The campaign on Kickstarter was not canceled because it failed to deliver, but because the group wanted to move to a new campaign platform which is Indiegogo. The Kickstarter campaign almost reached half of its funding goal of $550,000 but Bluth decided the group will move to another campaign, according to Tech Times.
"Today, we are cancelling our crowdfunding campaign," stated the Kickstarter update yesterday. "Ah, but Dirk and Daphne are not done yet! We'll all be back in action on Tuesday, December 1st with a stronger, more valiant campaign we modeled after many of your suggestions.
The reason why they decided to move to another campaign is due to the shortage of time to reach the funding goal. Since the "Dragon's Lair" Kickstarter needed more time and it only raised more than $240,000 from 3,000 people, Bluth and Goldman decided they needed more time, according to Gamespot. The whole animated movie would actually cost around $70 million and that is even a lower figure compared to big titles recently.
