Apple Beats Samsung In Smartphone Sale

According to the latest report by research firm Gartner on Monday, the tech giant Apple beat out Samsung to become the world's leading seller of smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Samsung, since the same quarter in 2016, had outsold Apple.

According to reports, the tech giant Apple shipped nearly 80 million units in the quarter, overlapping all other smartphone producers.

Apple has been atop the smartphone market for the first time since 2016, the report said.

Hence, South Korea's mobile maker Samsung did not issue new forefront phones that quarter. That makes Apple's sales were obsessed by announcing the new iPhone 12 lineup, which mostly sold well than the earlier year's iPhone updates.

Apple sold 69.6 million iPhones in the fourth quarter of 2019.

The Gartner estimates suggested that Apple's iPhone 12 devices, with 5G capability and a new external design, hit the marketplace.

Samsung declines its smartphone sales throughout 2020 by 14.6 percent, though the company remained the top smartphone seller across the year, regardless of Apple's Q4 victory.

The researcher notes that Samsung is facing a tight race in smartphone markets from Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo, which grew during the year.

Apple doesn't divulge its products, but the company said that the revenue from iPhones increased by 17% in the fourth quarter of last year.

International smartphone shipments fell 5.4% in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Gartner.

Despite the pandemic, Apple's unit sales grew by 3.3%. Samsung still shipped the most devices over a full year.

It can be recalled that Huawei and Samsung were battling the top spot for years, but the fall of 2020 disrupted the competition with the four new iPhone 12 models; Apple passed them both up with 20.8% of the global smartphone market in the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, China giant phone maker Huawei continues to decrease on the list, with Xiaomi securing the third spot and OPPO the fourth spot.
