NBC has issued a statement apologizing to Selena Gomez after one of their shows seemed to mock the singer/actress.

The show is the reboot of the once-popular "Saved By the Bell". In the sixth episode of the show, one scene showed graffiti on a wall which says "Does Selena even have a kidney?". Another scene had one actor saying, "I know for a fact that Selena Gomez's kidney donor was Justin Bieber's mom."

After the episode was shown, fans from all over the world took to social media to criticize the show and demanding an apology for the very insensitive remark regarding Selena's transplant.

NBC apologized and said that they never intended to make fun of the situation. Aside from the apology, they claim to also be in touch with Selena's team and also making a donation to her charity.

It was in 2017 that Selena admitted that she had undergone a kidney transplant. She was diagnosed with lupus a few years prior. She was noticeable absent from a few public events in 2017, and fans finally understood why when she revealed her situation. Her best friend, actress Francia Raisa was the one who donated her kidney to the singer. Raisa also commented on the issue and reminded the public that it's also important to not forget the donors who might have felt offended by what the show did.

Gomez had not made a statement regarding the issue. After stepping away from the limelight for a time, she has kept herself busy these past few months. Aside from releasing new music, such as "Ice Cream", her collaboration with Kpop group BLACKPINK, she has also produced the cooking show "Selena + Chef", which features Selena learning recipes through the help of professional chefs. This past September, Gomez also launched her own makeup line Rare Beauty.
