The world continues its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus, which primarily case the fatal disease spreads from one person to another through respiratory droplets, which travel into the air whenever some sings, shouts, sneezes, talks or coughs. These droplets can, then, land to another individual's nose or mouth, spreading the virus in just a snap.

Here are 3 primary reasons you should wear mask even if you are not sick:

1. Masks and face shields are barriers to COVID-19 virus transmission

Wearing of mask face masks and face shields is very important, especially if you are in a crowd, prevent the wearer from transmitting the COVID-19 virus to others. These instruments can help prevent one person's respiratory droplets from reaching others. Researches suggested that wearing masks helps protect people around you as it reduces the spray droplets when donned over the mouth and nose.

2. Universal use of masks can reduce the COVID-19 mortality

Multiple studies claimed that if significant portions of the population wear mask, it can, significantly, reduce the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths, more so if coupled with other precautionary measures like frequent hand washing and observing physical distancing. CDC even suggested wearing of mask while dining in restaurant except, of course, when actively drinking or eating. If wearing mask is impossible, the agency recommended to keep yourself, at least, one meter away from other people.

3. Numerous people are not aware that they are carrying the virus

Approximately, 40% of patients with COVID-19 show no signs of the disease but they are very much capable of transmitting the virus to other people. Without mass testing, there is no way of recognizing the persons who are silently spreading the virus in their community.

Wearing of masks and face shields can be uncomfortable for some. But, at the moment, it is among the few ways we can protect ourselves and our community. Stay safe!
