Johnny Depp Loses Libel Case
Johnny Depp has lost his libel case against British newspaper The Sun, who called the veteran actor a wife beater. The 57-year-old "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" star was adamant that the paper's claim that he beat his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, was not true at all.
The former lovers have been embroiled in a public and legal battle for some time. They got married in early 2015, but a little over a year later, Heard filed for divorce from the actor, claiming that he abused her during their relationship. Even though the divorce was made final in 2017, it seems that the two still had a lot of bad blood between them.
Depp sued Heard for defamation after she wrote an article for the Washington Post, which seemed to paint her as a domestic violence victim. He has since released several audio recordings showing that Heard was the one who was physically and verbally abusive in the relationship.
Despite the evidence he showed, the British judge in charge of the case said that there was overwhelming evidence that Johnny was indeed a wife beater. Lawyers for the actor said the ruling was perverse and they are planning to file an appeal.
