'While You Were Sleeping' Actress Suzy Inks Exclusive Contract With 'Big' Co-Star Gong Yoo's Agency
Korean A-list singer-actress Suzy has found a new agency. The While You Were Sleeping star has signed an exclusive contract with SOOP Management, the same agency that manages her Big co-star Gong Yoo.
Suzy's name and photo are already included in the list of artists in the SOOP Management official website. The agency also welcomed the Uncontrollably Fond actress to the family by posting her photo of SOOP official Instagram account. The agency has also released a statement with regards to its plans for Suzy.
"We will actively support her [Suzy] future activities and to continue strengthening her global popularity. From selecting works that can maximize her advantages and charms to domestic and foreign promotions as an actress and a soloist, we will provide full support for her," Koreaboo quoted SOOP Management as saying.
Suzy's transfer to SOOP came after she did not renew her contract with JYP Entertainment. The label earlier confirmed that Lee Min Ho's ex-girlfriend is leaving after nine years with the company. Many K-pop and K-drama fans believe that Suzy decided to leave her agency so she can focus on her acting career rather than her singing. SOOP is currently managing the career of some of Korea's bankable stars such as Coffee Prince actors Gong Yoo and Kim Jae Wook, Dr. Romantic's Seo Hyun Jin, and more.
Suzy started with JYP Entertainment in 2010 as a member of K-pop girl group, Miss A. The 24-year-old singer-actress renewed her contract with the company once in 2017 after JYP announced that Miss A had disbanded.
Aside from being a member of a K-pop female group, Suzy also tried acting. Her first TV series was the music teen drama Dream High in 2011. She made her movie debut in the film Architecture 101 in 2012. In early 2017, she was also made her debut as a solo artist with the album titled Yes? No?.
Suzy is set to appear in a lead role in the upcoming spy-thriller K-drama Vagabond alongside Lee Seung Gi. It is a small screen reunion for the two who previously worked together in Gu Family Book.
Vagabond is originally set to premiere in May but it has been delayed to September. Reports indicate that the delay was due to filming schedule issues and a pending deal with Netflix. The K-drama is a huge TV production that reportedly has costs 25 billion won (about $22 million) budget.
This is not the first time though that Vagabond's premiere has been delayed. It was first announced that it will be released by the end of 2018 and then it was moved to May 2019.
In the SBS's spy-thriller drama, Suzy plays the role of Go Hae Ri, a National Intelligence Service agent. Lee Seung Gi, on the other hand, is movie stuntman Cha Dal Gun, who dreams to become a world famous action actor. After he survived a plane crash, he made it a mission to uncover the truth behind the incident. In the process, he uncovers a conspiracy and a national corruption case.
