Criminal Minds has good and bad news to its fans. CBS has renewed the procedural drama for another season but it will be its last season and only has 10 episodes.

The cast of Criminal Minds has one more season before they finally bid farewell to their fans who have been following the series for one than a decade now. Although the series' final season is consist of only 10 episodes, showrunner Erica Messer is thankful to CBS for allowing them to properly end the show.

"I think one of my biggest fears was always, 'Oh man, what if we don't know' and then they just don't bring back the show? But they respect this series and the cast and the crew and the fans enough to end this properly," Messer told Deadline.

She also offered some details on what to expect in their final season. Messer revealed that she has no plan to kill off any of the characters for the final season of Criminal Minds. The showrunner assured that viewers can watch their favorite FBI profilers traveling in their private jet without fear that it will crash and everyone will die.

However, Season 15 will also feature a new villain that will torment the team especially David Rossi (Joe Mantegna). Messer revealed that a new unsub will be introduced later this season and the person will have a showdown with the BAU profilers throughout the last 10 episodes of the series.

Another good news is that there is a possibility that some of the original cast members will return for the final installment. Messer said she hopes to honor the past characters that fans have loved for years. However, she also admitted that she is unsure as of yet on how the storylines will be like if some of these characters make an appearance.

Among the original cast members that have left the show throughout the years are Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Lola Glaudini, and Shemar Moore. Out of the four, Patinkin is the only one who may not come back since his character, Jason Gideon, has died in the series. The rest of the characters left the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit for different reasons.

Criminal Minds Season 14 will resume airing following its winter break on January 23 at 10 p.m. ET.  The Season 14 finale will air on February 6. The current installment already has a reduced number of episodes, 15 to be exact, as compared to its first 13 seasons.
