The Big Bang Theory is bringing everything on the table on its final season. The much-awaited crossover of TBBT and its prequel spinoff, Young Sheldon, is finally happening very soon.

CBS has announced that Young Sheldon stars Iain Armitage (10-year-old Sheldon Cooper), Lance Barber (Sheldon's dad, George), and Montana Jordan (Sheldon's older brother, Georgie) will be making an appearance in one of the episodes of TBBT Season 12. This could mean adult Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is are most likely to share the screen with his younger self in the upcoming crossover.

TBBT has released the first photo of the crossover and it features Armitage, Barber, and Jordan seating at the couch in Leonard and Penny's apartment. The special episode is set to air in December.

CBS has been keeping under wraps the details on how the story of the special episode will go. However, it is interesting to note that it is only young Sheldon, his dad, and his older brother who will appear in the episode.

The setting of Young Sheldon takes place almost 30 years prior to the events in TBBT which Sheldon is already a grown-up man and working as a physicist in CalTech. Considering this, the appearance of the Young Sheldon characters may involve a flashback or possibly in adult Sheldon's dream.

Knowing how Sheldon's mind works, he may also be thinking about a wormhole sort of thing that his young self will be into. Either way, the possibility of Parsons and Armitage sharing the screen together for the first time in the Big Bang universe already excites the fans.

The Big Bang Theory-Young Sheldon crossover was first brought up during the Emmy Contenders event back in April. At the time, Young Sheldon co-creator Steve Molaro teased in an interview with Deadline about the possibility of the two Sheldon worlds colliding.

"There's no reason why we can't keep going back and forth in this weird time portal that has been created between the two shows," he said.

In the TBBT spinoff, Parsons narrates as the grownup Sheldon. After the original series wraps up Season 12, the Emmy-winning actor will continue his work in Young Sheldon as a narrator and one of the executive producers the series.

Prior to The Big Bang Theory Season 12 premiere, CBS and Warner Bros. TV announced in August that this will be the last installment for the show. Reports indicate that CBS and Warner Bros. TV made the decision to end the sitcom after 12 years run as Parsons is ready to leave the show. There have been reports that the actor was offered $50 million to stay with the show for two more years but declined the offer.

The Big Bang Theory Season 12 and Young Sheldon Season 2 air back to back on Thursdays at 8/7c and 8:30/7:30c, respectively. Both air on CBS.
