BLACKPINK In Same League As PSY, BIGBANG With Second Most No. 1s; Could Overtake BTS
The world is still talking about BLACKPINK—and it doesn't seem like it's going to slow down anytime soon. The girl group's comeback proved successful, and now they are the second girl group (comparable to 2NE1) to conquer primary world music charts
BLACKPINK's latest milestone has it a top contender in becoming one of the K-pop acts to make its way to the United States. Their new single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" debuted on the Hot 100 chart, but it appears success doesn't stop there for the quartet.
World Domination
Currently, BLACKPINK is sitting at the top spot on the World Digital Song Sales chart for their new single, allowing them to join the ranks of BIGBANG and PSY as the K-pop act with the second-most No. 1s on the list. BTS, meanwhile, tops them all with eight songs on the chart.
What's impressive about BLACKPINK's accomplishment is that the ladies have done this in such a short time compared to its fellow K-pop acts' debuts. The ladies went four for four by snagging No. 1s on the chart for every new release so far, including their debut single.
What's Next for BLACKPINK?
It's safe to say that Jisoo, Rose, Jennie, and Lisa are ecstatic over their accomplishment as a group. While enjoying their glorious moment, YG Entertainment is also making arrangements for the group's future international performances.
BLACKPINK's mini-album Square Up is No. 1 on the World Albums chart, making the girls the owner of the top spot on both Billboard main World charts. With two No. 1s in the same week, BLACKPINK has become one of the three K-pop acts to top both coveted rosters. Other acts that have accomplished this record include J-Hope, TWICE, and BTS.
We're yet to find out if BLACKPINK will surpass BTS, but the group definitely has the potential to take over the thrones reigned by their seniors. What we all know now for sure is that they are currently one of K-pop's most accomplished groups and they are well-oiled to deliver even more.
