‘Westworld’ Season 2 Finale: Why Bernard’s Acting All Strange

Something is wrong with Bernard -- according to viewers of Westworld Season 2. Ever since the second season premiered on HBO, fans have been going wild with speculations about Bernard (Jeffrey Wright), who recently is seen confused most of the time, even forgetting to wear his specs at some scenes. This led many to believe that Bernard may not be Bernard at all.

In the first episode of Westworld Season 2, fans were greeted with a picture of Bernard who appeared to be dazed upon waking up at a theme park after a huge disaster. Later on, fans realized that it had been two weeks since the events of the Season 1 finale transpired, with Delos reclaiming the park from the hosts.

Has Bernard Been Taken Over?

Ever since fans viewed that episode, several theories have sprouted. What happened in those two weeks? Some fans believe that Bernard had been taken over by someone else, the reason why he's seen acting odd.

It was also revealed that Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins) still exists within the minds of the hosts coding inside The Cradle, which led to the speculation that the Bernard in the first episode of Season 2 wasn't actually him, but a version of him controlled by the coding of Dr. Ford.

While plausible, a report by Vulture argues that this might not be the case. Those who have been watching 'Westworld' know for a fact that Bernard had already disabled Dr. Ford's programming, inhibiting him from controlling Bernard. While there is a possibility that Ford may have found a way to re-enter Bernard's mind, Vulture says this move is all too predictable, and that somebody else is inside Bernard and not exactly Ford.

Who's Inside Bernard?

Episode 9 saw Dr. Ford talk to Maeve and who appeared to have something altered in her programming. This may be Ford unlocking code inside Maeve for her to "escape" through Bernard. To prove the theory, Vulture says that Westworld Season 2 Episode 10 is called "The Passenger," which could be a hint that a host is about to get off the park via another host.

These are all theories, but they make solid points. We're yet to find out on the next episode of Westworld Season 2 on June 24, Sunday, only on HBO.
