MAMAMOO's Moonbyul Teams Up With Red Velvet’s Seulgi In 'Selfish' MV
MAMAMOO's Moonbyul dropped her first solo album and its track single's, "Selfish," music video. The MV features Moonbyul's close friend, Red Velvet member Seulgi.
"Selfish" is Moonbyul's first official solo album since she joined MAMAMOO in 2014. Aside from the lead track, the rapper's debut solo album also has two more songs. One of the tracks is an acoustic version of her solo song "Love & Hate" from MAMAMOO's mini album Purple, which was released last year.
The world "Selfish" has a negative connotation, but in Moonbyul's solo debut, it is not about being egocentric. The song is about wanting to be selfish to live for your own happiness.
Moonbyul and Seulgi can be seen in the MV spending some time together and enjoying the beautiful summer weather and the little things they both enjoy doing. Moonbyul's sweet voice creates an uplifting message to her fans. The MV already has over two million views on YouTube since its release this week.
The MAMAMOO member earlier teased that Seulgi will be in her upcoming solo album. The two filmed the "Selfish" MV last month. Moonbyul and Seulgi become close pals after they both appeared on KBS's Idol Drama Operation Team. Moonbyul and Seulgi kept in touch and remained friends after the show ended. Coincidentally, one of Moonbyul's sisters is also named Seulgi.
Expectations from Moonbyul's solo album are high. MAMAMOO's fans know how talented she is, particularly in songwriting and rapping. She has written songs for her band as well as the original soundtrack of Idol Drama Operation Team. She was also featured in Yoo Sung Eun's song "Nothing." Moonbyul is also reportedly participating in the rap making of all the songs on her new album.
Meanwhile, MAMAMOO released its sixth mini-album Yellow Flower in March. They also dropped its title track "Starry Night" that won several awards from different music shows.
The other members of MAMAMOO also have their solo projects. Hwasa recently collaborated with Loco. Their song "Don't" peaked at the No. 1 spot on the overall digital chart and the streaming chart for the week of May 13 to May 19. Last month, Wheein dropped her solo debut album Easy, while Solar had her first solo concert.
Wheein's solo album is part of MAMAMOO's spring-themed EP and the "Four Seasons Four Colors" project of the K-pop group. Moonbyul's solo single was originally planned to be included in Yellow Flower album, too. However, it was decided that they release it as her official solo debut track.
