Korean A-list actor Song Joong Ki has been in the headlines not only because of his hit movies and K-dramas and his romance with actress Song Hye Kyo. He once grabbed the headlines when he was caught smoking with some cast and crew of the Battleship Island movie. At the time, netizens urged the actor to quit smoking before his wedding to Hye Kyo. Did he really quit smoking?

Since Song Joong Ki's debut in the 2008 movie A Frozen Flower, he did not have a single scandal. The only instance that can be considered a scandal of the actor was when he was seen smoking with his Battle Island co-stars.

Song Joong Ki's fans know that the actor used to smoke during his college days. However, he admitted that he already quit smoking to keep a healthy lifestyle. In fact, his favorite skincare advice is moisturizing and no smoking.

But in July 2017, Battleship Island director Ryoo Seung Wan posted a photograph of the actor smoking with his co-stars So Ji Sub, Hwang Jung Min, and other members of the production crew. The photo sparked negative comments about Song Joong Ki, and many fans urged the actor to ditch the habit before he gets married to Hye Kyo.

It looks like he never revisits the old habit again. The Battle Island stars' social smoking was the last time Song Joong Ki was spotted having a cigarette. Many netizens believe that he already completely quit the habit after he got married to his on-screen partner Song Hye Kyo on October 31, 2017.

Some also believe that the instance that he smoked with his co-stars was a one-time event only as director Ryoo said in the photo caption that the "actors felt sad" at the time. It wasn't clear, though, why the cast was sad. Their movie was already released in cinemas when the photo was shared online.

Smoking is prevalent in Korea despite efforts from the government to restrain it. Many Korean celebrities either admitted that they do smoke or that they have been caught with a cigarette in hand. Some cited smoking as their way to relieve the stress from work. Nonetheless, it creates a bad image among fans; hence, many decided to quit.

As for Song Joong Ki, it seems like the smoking incident with the Battle Island cast and crew doesn't leave any damage on his career. He maintains a positive image even though he and Song Hye Kyo have been out of the spotlight since their wedding.

The actor had admitted that he is not a perfect person. "If you know me, you know that I am actually not really decent. I have confidence in swearing," Song Joong Ki said in an interview last year.
