J.Y. Park Denies Involvement In Religious Cult; Celebrity Suffers Financial Blow Due To Accusations
Park Jin Young a.k.a. J.Y. Park is in a bit of a pickle right now, a religious pickle nonetheless, as he has been strung into a series of accusations regarding a religious cult. Park Jin Young has been accused of being a member of a notorious South Korean cult due to a recent meeting with actor Bae Yong Joon.
The said cult is none other than Salvation Sect from South Korea. Rumors that the actor was involved with them began circulating on May 2 when Park Jin Young and Bae Yong Joon were spotted attending what appeared to be a church meeting. Park Jin Young has since denied the allegations and stated that he was not affiliated with the Salvation Sect.
Meanwhile, the news outlet responsible for the allegations was Korean news outfit Dispatch who claimed that the said meeting Park Jin Young and Bae Yong Joon attended was for the Salvation Sect. In addition to the denial, Park Jin Young also took to social media to respond to the accusations from Dispatch.
Park Jin Young posted on his Instagram that he was just paying money to rent a space in order to teach Bible studies along with Bae Yong Joon. It was not exactly a Salvation Sect meeting per se, but out of a few 100 people who sat down and listened to Park Jin Young's Bible study lecture, a few were from the Salvation Sect as attendees.
Unfortunately, despite Park Jin Young's explanation on the matter, his stock value has taken quite a hit since the speculations circulated that he was part of the cult. JYP Entertainment, which is Park Jin Young's entertainment company, suffered a staggering 10.26 percent drop and is now down to 19,500 KRW (18.15 USD) at the time of writing.
Still, Park Jin Young is not backing down from Dispatch and has even asked the news agency how they plan to take responsibility for the damage they have done to the executive producer's company. Park Jin Young might eventually take legal action depending on the magnitude of the damage that Dispatch has done to him and his company, though for now, hopefully now further harm is done to either party.
