Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was released last year. The movie did get a 4.7 rating from critics but still, the hype dwindled. Still, producer Jerry Bruckheimer remains optimistic about the future of the movie franchise.

High Hopes For a Sixth

Bruckheimer and Walt Disney Pictures seem to remain hopeful. His statement before indicates that they are waiting on how the home video will do before they decide for a continuation. During an interview with Yahoo Movies, Buckheimer was in high spirits about Dead Men Tell No Tales.

"I think it did phenomenal. I mean, you're talking about the fifth [film] in the series in a down market, and the American dollar is so strong that we're getting less returns from foreign. This movie would've made a billion dollars had it been back in the same financial situation as On Stranger Tides. But we lost 27% of our money just by the conversion rate.

He added, "Well, I hope we can continue to make it, but you know we've been having so much just promoting this one right now that we'll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, it's very successful on DVD as the other ones have been. Then hopefully we'll sit down and see where we go."

It's In the Contract

Even Kaya Scodelario, who joined the franchise in the fifth entry as Carina Smyth, said she would still return should there be a sixth installment. She even has an idea of where she would take her character. However, no script has arrived yet.

The good news, though, is that it seems that Scodelario is under contract for a sixth installment.

"Well, when I signed up for the first one, I signed up for two movies. So I am contractually obliged, but I'd love to do it. I think there's a lot so we can still do. I'd like to see a Carina who takes the helm of Barbossa on the sea - have her own all-female pirate crew," she said.

The Return of the Trio

Unfortunately, there is still no news about whether or not a sixth installment is on the way. The silver lining? Should it return, the last film's post-credits scene clearly indicates that if Pirates of the Caribbean 6 move forward, fans will get to see the original trio - Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Jack Sparrow.
