Ever since the end of Gravity Falls in 2016, fans still rooted for a Season 3 of the Disney Channel hit series for months. However, creator Alex Hirsch has made it clear that Gravity Falls Season 2 is the end of the series.

The penultimate episode, "Weirdmageddon Part 2: Escape From Reality" has answered some questions about the show's mysteries. Hirsch also wrote on his Tumblr his thoughts regarding the end of the series, "The first thing. to know is that the show isn't being cancelled." He continued, "It's being finished. This is 100% my choice, and it's something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer - a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose. their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff."

Despite the end of the series, it looks like some of the geniuses behind the well-loved Disney series is up for another series of shows.

Disney Channel has recently greenlit two new animated series. Matt Braly, who was also a director of Gravity Falls will work on  Amphibia. The series is about the adventures of a 13-year-old girl who is transported to a world full of frog people.

Another person behind Gravity Falls, Dana Terrace, will be working on The Owl House. The series will be about a teenage girl who accidentally stumbles upon the portal to the Demon Realm where she will meet a rebellious witch and a tiny warrior.

"Amphibia and The Owl House are both set in wildly imaginative worlds and share hallmarks of great Disney storytelling, including fantastical elements and memorable characters," said Eric Coleman, the senior VP of original programming and general manager at Disney Television Animation (DTA).

Both series will hit the small screens in 2019.
