Xiaomi, the Chinese tech giant will be launching the much awaited Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus on December 7 in China. The company has confirmed the release date from its Weibo account.

In the Weibo post by Xiaomi, doesn't reveal much about the upcoming Redmi  5 and Redmi  5 Plus, apart from they're taller than usual 18:9 displays, and the release date. However, the previous TENAA listing of the MDE1 and MDT1 reveals a very similar smartphone, featuring a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) 18:9 display.

The TENAA listing reveals that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 to be significantly larger than the 5-inch display bearing Redmi 4 in terms of dimensions, despite seeming the forego the hardware capacitive buttons in front, as reported by GSM Arena. In terms of camera, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will sport a 12 Megapixel rear camera and a 5 Megapixel front camera. The smartphone will also come with MIUI 9 which will be based on Android 7.1.2. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is listed running Android 7.1.2, tipping an MIUI 9 build out-of-the-box. The fingerprint scanner can be seen on the rear panel.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will boast a 1.8GHz processor that could be the Snapdragon 625. However, bearing in mind previous iterations of the device, Xiaomi might opt for a more budget oriented Snapdragon 450. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is said to sport a much smaller 3200mAH battery in comparison to last year's Redmi 4. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be coming in three variants with 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB variants, as reported by Gadget360.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, on the other hand, is expected to boast a Snapdragon 625 or Snapdragon 630 SoC, different RAM and storage variants, and a larger 4000mAh battery. We do not have long to wait however before the December 7 launch, when Xiaomi can be expected to reveal everything about the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.
