'Star Wars Rebels' Season 4 Preview Teases a Kanan-Hera Romance
"Star Wars Rebels" has begun its fourth and final season. Although we're saying goodbye to the Ghost's crew, series creator Dave Filoni assures fans that all of the characters are getting conclusions to their arcs as planned.
The Nerdist has an interview with Filoni where he spilled some information regarding the plans for the final season. Filoni said that season 4 will be more serialized than the previous seasons. He clarified that the episodes will still be self-contained, but they will now be more closely related to one another.
Filion placed a heavy focus on the show's Jedi characters, Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus. The showrunner noted that fans are aware that the Empire will not be defeated until Luke Skywalker and his friends bring it down in "Return of the Jedi."
That means Ezra will not end the series triumphant over the Empire. "What does he consider a victory?" Filoni said. "How is he going to use his powers?" The show is building up to a different sort of victory for Ezra, implied Filoni.
While he offered no details, the likelihood is that crew of Ghost will score a winning battle, rather than winning the whole war. That suggests an outcome similar to the conclusion of "Rogue One," although probably not so dark.
Voice actress Vanessa Marshall, who plays Hera Syndulla, also talked to the Nerdist. Marshall hinted that Hera is going to explore a more personal journey in season 4, rather than being totally focused on missions. The actress said that Hera would be more caring to the crew members, including Kanan. That seems to be a hint of a romance between Hera and Kanan this season.
Hollywoodpoint provides a spoiler-free preview of the first episode of the final season. Titled "Heroes of Mandalore Part 1," the episode tasks the Ghost crew with a mission to rescue Sabine Wren's father from the clutches of Gar Saxon. This leads to a high-octane chase across the vast wastes of Mandalore.
