'Lucifer' Season 3 Spoilers: A Love Rival, a Sinnerman
When "Lucifer" season 3 premieres on October 2, the fallen angel will be faced with the vexing mystery of his returned wings. He will also find himself in a love triangle when "Smallville" star Tom Welling joins the cast of the show. Spoilers about season 3 and last season's finale will be discussed below.
The final episode of season 2 left viewers with a tantalizing visual: Lucifer in the desert with his wings regrown, and no memory of what happened or who did this to him. This does not sit well with him, of course, and Fox's handsome devil (played by Tom Ellis) is determined to get back at his mysterious assailant. Viewers will soon learn that this shadowy antagonist is known as the Sinnerman, says Bleeding Cool.
"Lucifer" fans may recall that season 2 was trimmed of four episodes that had already been filmed. They may be wondering if those four episodes will be opening season 3. Speaking to TV Line, "Lucifer" co-showrunner Joe Henderson explained that the first couple of episodes will be brand-new ones that continue the story from the previous finale.
The previously-filmed episodes will be incorporated throughout the run of the third season, however. One of them has been confirmed as being a flashback episode about Lucifer's initial experiences in L.A. Others will act as jumping-off points for character arcs featuring Maze, Ella, and Dr. Linda, respectively.
TV Guide reports that Welling's new character will be Lieutenant Marcus Pierce, who has a romantic spark with Det. Chloe Decker (Lauren German). This puts him in a bizarre love triangle with Lucifer, who is not used to having a romantic rival. But there's more to Pierce than his being a competitor for Chloe's affection. He knows about the Sinnerman and he may be the key to taking down Lucifer's new enemy.
