'Marvel's The Punisher' Official Trailer: Analysis of Scenes
The pulse-pounding official trailer for "Marvel's The Punisher" is out, and it promises thrills a-plenty. The video's cold opening shows a few seconds of Frank Castle's happy home life before plunging us into the violent, take-no-prisoners world of the trigger-happy vigilante.
The Netflix show is a spin-off from "Marvel's Daredevil" that has had two seasons on the streaming service. Jon Bernthal plays Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher in both series.
The Punisher's iconic skull-emblazoned uniform soon makes an appearance in the trailer. After losing his loved ones, Castle is shown sharpening his blade, loading his gun and painting the death's head symbol on his black combat vest. In the trailer's first shot of the skull outfit, it is already spattered with blood and Castle is standing over a downed enemy, soullessly muttering, "What do you know about my family?"
The trailer goes on to show that Castle believes he was targeted due to his involvement in a covert CIA operation. "The man in charge wants me dead," he says in the video. "Homeland, the FBI, everybody's a part of this."
He appears to be saying this to Micro, the Punisher's bearded, tech-savvy ally who is played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The scruffy, hipster-ish Micro is showing him grainy footage of a prisoner interrogation. A close look at the screen shows that the video file is named "zubair_interrogation.mp4" and IMdb lists an Ahmad Zubair in the cast list. Zubair seems to be the prisoner seen in the footage.
The trailer flips through various scenes depicting several of the key characters in "Marvel's The Punisher": Dinah Madani, played by Amber Rose Revah, is a Homeland Security agent. Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), a character in "Marvel's Daredevil," shows up by Frank Castle's side. Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) walks away from a massive explosion. Russo knows Castle from their time together in the Special Forces, but he now runs the Anvil private military corporation, notes Empire Online.
The trailer obscures the premiere date of "Marvel's The Punisher," which Netflix has yet to announce. Comicbook.com predicts that Marvel TV might screen the first episode of "Marvel's The Punisher" for attendees of New York Comic Con, which runs October 5th through October 8th.
