E-cigarettes: Vape That Contains Nicotine Can Increase Heart Rate, Researchers Warn
E-cigarettes have been the trend lately. Ultimately, the product helps users to quit smoking. As for some, they use this product for hobby and expedition. However, in the recent research, experts warn that these electronic products that contain nicotine can increase the risk of heart problems.
A new study suggests that E-cigarettes that contain nicotine can increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The researchers found that the vaping device contains the stimulant that could cause a stiffening of the arteries. Thus, users can also have an increased rate in the blood pressure and heart rate.
In the study, a team of Swedish scientists gathered 15 healthy volunteers to take part in their experiments. None of these participants had ever used an E-cigarette before. As a result, the test has found that after 30 minutes of smoking the E-cigarettes that contains nicotine, there was a significant increase in heart rate, arterial stiffness, and blood pressure, according to the Guardian.
Also, the researchers found that there was no such effect in the volunteers who smoked E-cigarettes without nicotine. Thus, a doctor from the Karolinska Institute that is a medical university in Stockholm, Dr. Magnus Lundback suggested that "The number of e-cigarette users has increased dramatically in the last few years. E-cigarettes are regarded by the general public as almost harmless."
Furthermore, Dr. Lundback added that the results are just preliminary. However, the study has found a significant increase in the heart rate and blood pressure from the volunteers upon the exposure to the E-cigarettes that have nicotine compared to those that does not contain nicotine.
As follows, the researchers also found that the Arterial stiffness increased around threefold in the group that smoked the E-cigarettes that contains nicotine, compared to the nicotine free group. Dr. Lundback mentioned "while the effects seen in the tests were temporary, chronic exposure to e-cigarettes with nicotine could have permanent effects," according to Independent.
In line, Dr. Lundback also mentioned that vaping is a £1bn business. The industry markets their product in a way to reduce harm and to help people stop smoking tobacco cigarettes. Yet, it is still being debated up to now, the safety of using E-cigarettes. Thus, a growing body of evidence suggests several negative health effects.
