'Gambit' Movie To Start Over Because Of Deadpool & Logan

Channing Tatum's solo "Gambit" movie is still alive! At the premiere of his new movie, "Logan Lucky," the actor gave an update about the superhero movie. 

The "Gambit" movie from Twentieth Century Fox has been in development for a really long time now. In January 2015, the studio announced that the movie will be released in theaters on Oct. 7, 2016. 

However, after the runaway success of the Ryan Reynolds' R-rated "Deadpool" in February 2016, Fox announced that they would remove the "Gambit" movie from their release schedule. Some said production of the movie was supposed to begin last year and land in theaters by the second half of 2017. Obviously, that did not happen and fans would have to wait longer before they finally see the beloved mutant on the big screen. 

In an interview with HeyUGuys, Tatum revealed that work on the "Gambit" movie will be starting over. He attributes the movie's sudden change of direction from the success of other Fox properties, "Deadpool" and "Logan."

"We lit a fuse on the first one and just blew it completely out of the water," the actor explained. "I think we got lucky - we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn't seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then 'Deadpool' and 'Logan' came through and kicked the doors down."

He did not divulge how their "Gambit" movie will change from here on out. From Tatum's statement, it looks like his team plans to follow the footsteps of both "Deadpool" and "Logan." Aside from the R-rating, both superhero movies offered a different kind of experience in the very saturated comic book movie industry. 

Tatum also added that rule-breaking "Deadpool" and "Logan" allows the "Gambit" movie to do some things that they thought can never be executed on cinema. That said, he stated that they will be starting over from scratch. 

Neither Tatum nor Fox has announced a release date for the "Gambit" movie as of this writing. In the mean time, the sequel to Reynolds' 2014 hit, "Deadpool 2," will be released on June 1, 2018.
