'Project Runway Season 14' Winner Is Ashley Tipton; First Plus-Size Collection Is On The Show
Ashley Nell Tipton is the winner of "Project Runway Season 14," after impressing the judges with her collection, according to UPI.
"These definitely are happy tears," Tipton said after winning. "Thank you so much."
24 year old Ashley designed straight-sized clothes throughout the competition and decided to enter the finale by designing a plus-size collection.
The collection was never seen in the show before and the designer beat out Candice Cuoco, Kelly Dempsey, and Edmond Newton.
"I would describe my style as having fun and being funky, showing your personality through your clothing and having fun with it," told Tipton to E! News before the part one of the season's finale.
"That's what I love to design. I love to design the clothing that is not out there for your average plus size woman and I want to fill in the gap of that industry and not design cookie cutter things."
Ashley Tipton gives credit to the show's judges, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen for giving her substantial critiques each week. She used these to improve her ideas and design.
When asked by Entertainment Weekly who Tipton felt was her biggest competition, the designer answered that it would be her own self.
Ashley hopes that her success and designs can bring some change in the fashion industry.
"I hope that I'm starting something, where people feel that it is expected to have plus-size models walk in New York Fashion Week," Ashley told People Magazine. "I hope this starts a whole revolution, that plus-size is accepted in fashion."
The designer says she does not have a store yet, but she would like to let everybody know who she is, and what her journey was like on the show, cites EW. Ashley is in the beginning stages of negotiations with big-named companies.
Ashley Tipton has recently launched her website.
"The Project Runway Season 14" reunion will be aired next week, on Lifetime.
