‘Bride Of The Water God’ Updates: Nam Joo Hyuk’s Role Similar To Gong Yoo’s ‘Goblin’? Lee Sung Kyung’s Boyfriend Responds

With the impending premiere of tvN's new fantasy series "Bride of the Water God," some critics commented on the drama's similarities to the global hit "Goblin." Recently, the actor shared his thoughts on how his role has been compared to Gong Yoo's titular character.

"Bride of the Water God" promises to delight avid K-drama fans with another TV production that will explore the relationships between mythical beings and humans. Nam Joo Hyuk joins the list of talented actors who portrayed godlike creatures whose sojourn in the mortal realm led them to discover more about human life and love.

Portraying the titular role of the water god Ha Baek, some critics highlighted how Nam Joo Hyuk's character in "Bride of the Water God" has similarities to Gong Yoo's "Goblin" role. In the drama's recent press conference, Lee Sung Kyung's boyfriend was asked to comment on the how the said two characters have the same way of speaking.

The "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" actor admitted that his character having the same manner of speech as Gong Yoo's iconic Kim Shin was something unintentional on his part. It naturally happened as he read the script and started portraying his titular role in "Bride of the Water God," Korean news outlet Sports Donga quoted Nam Joo Hyuk as saying.

Meanwhile, the press event for "Bride of Water God" became a star-studded affair with the attendance of the drama's main cast members. Apart from Nam Joo Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung, f(x)'s Krystal also attended the said conference including Im Joo Hwan and Gong Myung, Korea Herald reported.

"Bride of the Water God" tells the story of a debt-ridden doctor named So Ah (Shin Se Kyung) whose family has been serving the water god Ha Baek (Nam Joo Hyuk) for several decades. Identified as the said mythical being's bride, So Ah meets Ha Baek when he joins the mortal world to claim his mate. The two characters will then encounter other godlike creatures who also descended to earth such as the beautiful goddess Mu Ra (Krystal) and the wind god Bi Ryum (Gond Myung).

"Bride of the Water God" will premiere on July 3 on tvN. New episodes of Nam Joo Hyuk's drama will be released every Monday and Tuesday.
