BTS Smashes Taylor Swift's 28-Week Record On BIllboard, Goes After Justin Bieber Next
BTS is proving that the K-pop has what it takes to stay competitive against international artists as the Bangtan Boys managed to edge out Taylor Swift from her position as an artist with the second most number of weeks on the Billboard Social 50 chart. BTS, which has managed to keep their position on the charts for 29 weeks has surpassed Swift's 28-week record.
According to a report by Soompi, BTS recently marked its 29th week on the chart since entering the Billboard Social 50 last October. BTS managed to stay on the chart and surpass the record set by Rihanna and Miley Cyrus who were then tied as the artists with the third most number of weeks on the chart with 21-week.
However, BTS has a long way to go before it ties with Justin Bieber, who holds the record of 161 weeks on the chart at the height of his "Purpose" album. This would be a major challenge for BTS to sustain its gains for the next months but current standings hint that they are maintaining a strong foothold on the top positions on the chart.
It can be recalled that BTS managed to win the Top Social Artist award at the recently concluded Billboard Music Awards, surprising most international music fans who expected superstars Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez or Shawn Mendes to win the category. For fans of BTS, known as ARMY, it came as no surprise since the music of BTS transcends language and race.
"We still cannot believe we're standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards...," BTS leader Rap Monster said in their speech to accept the award. "Most importantly, this award belongs to the every people all around the world that shine the love and light on us by the million and make BTS proud.
