‘Produce 101 Season 2’ Tops TV Popularity Chart For 9th Consecutive Week
Mnet's all-boys survival reality program 'Produce 101 Season 2' has yet again conquered the TV popularity index. New data reveals that 'Produce 101' has been sitting comfortably on the top spot for 9 consecutive weeks now on the TV popularity chart or Content Power Index.
'Produce 101 Season 2' received a score of 265.7 points in the Content Power Index, or CPI, which makes it the most popular TV show from May 29 to June 4. CPI is a development of entertainment company CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea which measures the popularity of TV programs based on a number of views on related news stories, online search tallies, and social media discussions.
The premise of 'Produce 101 Season 2' is that viewers, otherwise called as 'Nation's Producers', get to choose which male trainees will debut. The survival TV program is a popularity contest and centers on male trainees from different entertainment agencies who battle it out in several talent challenges to determine which of them is ready to debut. Viewers get to decide which trainees they want to see debut, which is probably why 'Produce 101' garners high ratings each episode.
Last year's season of 'Produce 101' featured all-female trainees, which gave birth to project girl group I.O.I. Season 2's success seems to mirror that of last season but it remains to be seen if the new project boy group will shadow I.O.I's popularity. Following 'Produce 101 Season 2' on the TV popularity chart is 'My Sassy Girl', a part remake of the Jun Ji Hyun classic. It debuted at 2nd place with a score of 233.6 points. Taking the 3rd place is 'Dictionary Of Useless Knowledge' with 232.9 points and KBS 2TV's 'Fight For My Way' jumped to 4th place. 'Produce 101 Season 2' is slated to end and air its finale episode on June 16 with a live broadcast. It is safe to say even as early as now that it will garner groundbreaking TV ratings once again.
