Jungkook Misses Fanboy Moment With Martial Arts Idol Donnie Yen In BTS Hong Kong Concert
It would have been a fanboy moment to remember. Fans recently spotted BTS maknae Jungkook's all-time martial arts idol Donnie Yen attending the BTS concert in Hong Kong with his kids.
It can be recalled that in an interview prior to the concert, BTS members were asked about what they would like to do while they were in the city. While the members answered differently, Jungkook's answer was short and sure.
The BTS maknae said that he wanted to learn wing chun from "IP Man" star Donnie Yen who played the role of Yip Man, the legendary martial artist who taught Bruce Lee. BTS members said that they hope that Donnie Yen notices Jungkook so that he may get to meet his idol.
"Donnie Yen is my idol, he's really cool!" Jungkook said unabashedly. It would seem that other BTS members Jimin and V would also want to take a crack at acting in a martial arts movie if given an opportunity.
During the concert, a fan spotted Donnie Yen at the concert venue and quickly uploaded the snap on his Twitter. It was too bad, though that Jungkook was not informed that his idol was in attendance or it would have been a dream come true for the maknae, SBS Pop Asia reported.
In real life, Jungkook's idol Donnie Yen is also a true martial artist, learning the art of tai chi when he was young and evolving to other forms of martial arts like wushu, jiu-jitsu and parkour as he grew older. Aside from "IP Man", his other notable films include Dragon, Legend of the Fist and most recently, the "Star Wars" standalone "Rogue One."
After performing in Asia, BTS will be attending the Billboard Music Awards on May 21 before flying to Australia for the continuation of their "Wings" World Tour. BTS will conclude the final leg of their tour in Japan from June to July where they are currently topping the Oricon chart for the Japanese version of "Blood Sweat and Tears."
