Sean Penn and Madonna have been spotted together on the beach, at Shutters; in Santa Monica, Calif., according to Page Six. "They were both at the hotel, hanging at the bar area. They were just kicking it," said a source.

Madonna and her ex-husband have been spending a lot of time together in recent months. The two were married, and stayed together for four years; they divorced in 1989.

In early June, after being together for almost a year and a half together, Sean Penn and his fiancée Charlize Theron split. Theron called off their engagement, as revealed by US Weekly.

A few months before they broke off, Oscar winner Sean Penn and his daughter attended Madonna's concert at the Brooklyn's Barclay Center.

"Thirty years earlier he was very upset with me for wearing a costume that was too revealing," said the "Rebel Heart" singer to the audience at her Brooklyn show. "That's not a lie! After the show, he wrote me a letter and said he finally appreciates my art."

Penn recently filed a $10 million defamation suit against Lee Daniels; co-creator of the hit show "Empire."

"Ain't done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn, and all of a sudden he's some f-kin' demon," filmmaker Daniels told the Hollywood Reporter in early September.

He was referring to the negative press that surrounded "Empire" star Terrence Howard, who has a history of violence against women. Penn then addressed old allegations that he tied Madonna to a chair, and attacked her.

Sean Penn has introduced his daughter Dylan Penn, 24 to Madonna; during the icon's gig at Madison Square Garden, in New York.

"I think he just really admires her work. They're just really good friends and it's sweet that they can have this relationship," said Robin Wright's daughter, Dylan.
