'Friends' Reunion Post Is A Hoax; Thousands Of Fans Fooled By Fake David Schwimmer Account
Fans of 90s hit comedy sitcom "Friends" were faced with major disappointed when news of a "Friends" revival turned out to be a major hoax. Fans have been pushing a reunion since the show that catapulted Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc to superstardom went off air 13 years ago.
According to a report by NME, a Facebook page that purportedly belonged to David Schwimmer, who played paleonthologist Ross Gellar in the series went viral after it posted an image of the iconic peephole on Monica's apartment with 2018 on top of it. The post further teased that it has already been made official that "Friends" will be returning for another season.
Fans immediately went on a frenzy and reposted the poster on Facebook. Pretty soon, the buzz about the "Friends" reboot has reached Twitter with many devoted supporters seeking to verify the truth about the post.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Facebook page that started off the rumors was a fake account and did not belong to David Schwimmer. A Buzz Feed report noted that the surname was spelled Schwimer instead of Schwimmer. It also had one single post that was taken down after it was shared 235,000 times. The URL link to the image also misspelled Schwimmer's character's name on "Friends."
Throughout the years, former cast mates have been asked constantly about the possibility of a reunion. None of the cast members have committed to a reunion or reboot owing to their busy schedules which makes it difficult to block off a filming schedule. It would also be very costly production for any network who will produce the show since all of the cast members equally received $1 million per episode 13 years ago when they showed their unity and negotiated their contracts together.
Still, hope remains high for a "Friends" reboot given the number of shows that have been picked up for fresh seasons years after they aired their final episodes. The most recent series to be picked up were "Gilmore Girls", "X-files", and even Fox's "Prison Break". "Will and Grace" has also been picked up for a fresh season by NBC and will start airing this fall, Today reported.
