‘Goblin’ Fans Enraged After Series Did Not Win Best Drama At The 2017 Baeksang Awards?

"Goblin" may have received multiple recognitions at the recently concluded 2017 Baeksang Awards, but fans are not happy that the series did not bring home the Best TV Drama trophy.

According to Soompi, tvN's "Dear My Friends" bagged the award, but "Goblin" received the Grand Award during the event that took place on Wednesday, May 3.

Kim Eun Sook, the screenwriter for "Goblin," was recognized for her work in the hit series. "Goblin" followed the life of an immortal God named Kim Shin (Gong Yoo), who also happens to be a protector of souls. He liked with an amnesiac Grim Reaper (Lee Dong Wook), who is in charge of taking the souls of the deceased. Together, the Goblin and the Grim Reaper send the dead off to the afterlife. Gong Yoo also brought home the Best Drama Actor award for his exemplary performance in "Goblin."

Meanwhile, Park Chan Wook was also awarded for his hit movie, "The Handmaiden." Upon accepting his award, Park Chan Wook also talked about the upcoming 19th South Korean presidential elections.

"I think I should be able to say this since I won this award for 'The Handmaiden.' I hope that when people are voting for who will be the next president, they will take into consideration whether that candidate will be able to create a story where people are not discriminated against for their gender, sexual identity and sexual orientation," he said.

Other notable winners at the 53rd Baeksang Awards include Song Kang Ho and So Ye Jin for Best Actor and Actress in the film. Seo Hyun Jin won Best Drama Actress for her role in "Another Oh Hae Young," Kim Min Suk won in the Best New Actor category for "Doctors," and Lee Se Young won in the Best New Actress category for her portrayal in "Laurel Tree Tailors," according to Koreaboo.
