PlayStation 5 To Be Launched In 2018? VR Gaming To Be Its Main Focus?
Sony's recently released PlayStation 4 Pro has been doing good commercially as of late. However, with Microsoft's so-called monster of a console codenamed Scorpio, talks are getting rife that the next-gen PlayStation - the PlayStation 5 - might come out earlier than expected.
Macquarie Capital Security analyst Damian Thong - who has an impeccable batting average in predicting upcoming gaming platforms - recently made a forecast that a new render of the PlayStation console will arrive during the second half of 2018, according to Forbes. That said, players believe that Sony could be launching its fifth iteration of their best-selling console that is expected to be coined as the PlayStation 5.
Albeit the fearless forecast, specifications under its hood remain undisclosed as of late. Nevertheless, if PlayStation's current build is anything to go by, the yet to be released PlayStation 5 will still have Advanced Micro Devices' (AMD) x86 multi-core processor and graphics processing unit (GPU). Tech buffs are pretty much aware by now that the chip maker has devised new architectures for both its CPUs and GPUs with the latter donning the moniker Vega. With this development, it is likely that Sony will be absorbing these advancements into their next console provided that such goes to fruition.
Furthermore, with the advent of virtual reality, it is also probable that Sony will also be setting their crosshairs with the said know-how now that there is quite a number game devs who have expressed their plans in developing titles to be played in VR, ValueWalk noted. Bethesda Softworks is just one of those game makers who is currently converting their acclaimed title - "Fallout 4" to be playable in VR. With the expected tweaks, it is also plausible that backward compatibility will also be featured in PlayStation 5. Check out a video about Sony's rumored console here:
